Rental information
Terms and conditions
Please review these conditions before confirming your rental. Our local team is available if you would like any point explained.
01
Driver requirements and permits
Local driving permits
A local driving permit is required to drive in Saint Lucia unless the driver holds an International Driving Permit. Cosmopolitan Car Rentals can issue a permit at the government cost of US$12 per driver for a one-day permit or US$21 per driver for a permit valid for three months.
Age requirements
To rent a vehicle, a driver must be at least 25 years old, have at least two years of driving experience and be no more than 65 years old. In accordance with the insurance policy, drivers older than 65 must present a doctor's certificate.
02
Collision Damage Waiver (optional)
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not insurance. It reduces the renter's full liability in the event of a collision or loss, provided the vehicle is operated in accordance with every condition of the rental contract.
When CDW is accepted
CDW is offered at US$15 per day. A US$500 cash deposit or signed credit-card imprint is required at the beginning of the rental to cover initial expenses arising from damage or loss through collision, water, fire or theft.
When CDW is declined
The renter is responsible for damage up to the full value of the vehicle in the event of collision, total loss, water, fire or theft, regardless of fault. A US$1,200 deposit and signed card imprint are required at the beginning of the rental.
Items not covered by CDW
CDW does not cover flat or damaged tyres or rims, vehicle upholstery, missing mats or tools, fuel used or traffic violations. Vehicles must not be driven on beaches.
Third-party card coverage
Some credit-card companies offer rental-car coverage, but it may not apply outside the cardholder's home country. The renter is responsible for confirming coverage. Following an accident, repairs must be settled locally; Cosmopolitan Car Rentals will provide copies of bills for a claim with the renter's insurer.
03
Booking and rental period
Booking procedure
A Visa or Mastercard is required to confirm a reservation.
Rental period
Rentals are normally calculated in 24-hour periods. If the vehicle is not returned within 24 hours of the expected return time, the renter will be charged for an additional day or any part of an additional day.
04
Cancellation policy
Notice must be given at least one week before the reserved date to receive a full refund. With less than one week's notice, a two-day rental fee will be charged. If the vehicle has already been delivered, the renter may be responsible for 50–100% of the rental cost for the reserved period.
05
Vehicle condition and authorised use
The selected vehicle will be delivered in good operating condition with tyres, tools and equipment, accessories, keys and vehicle documents and a Saint Lucia road map.
- Only the renter and approved additional drivers may operate the vehicle.
- Repairs must not be carried out, except for tyres.
- The vehicle must be operated in accordance with every condition of the signed rental contract.
